so I found something interesting regarding US purchases

So I'm sure you guys notice it too. You seem to get hosed a few percent via credit cards, PayPal and even bank transfers.

Case in point I recently received a 75 dollar payment from a US buyer. The exchange rate at 71 cents on the dollar should've been 105 and change but was instead 102. I was a little frustrated because I checked the rates.

So I looked it up and banks, hotels and currency centres use a personal exchange rate at factors in 3 to 9 percent for fees.

So you can get an international credit card via chase and there is another one. Here was a link I read into. http://www.greedyrates.ca/blog/best-.../#.VrEeJTv8XqA

Anyone have any luck with this stuff?

Also amazon's, have not used it yet. Question I have is what's the easiest way to pay the VISA from within another institution, I'm assuming you could simply add Amazon's Reward Visa from within Manage Payees through your normal chequing account.

I have an Adobe account that I have to pay in US funds. Using the amazon visa I save a few dollars by not having to pay the conversion fee.

You can pay it through your banks portal like a regular bill.

But what happens when you pay from your Canadian dollar to the US card? Same conversion fees will apply, no?

Only way around it is to have a US dollar bank account, I guess...

The amazon visa card is not a US credit card, it's in CAN funds. I just don't have to pay a fee to exchange the money from CAN to US.

As for a US dollar bank account, the bank still charges you a fee unless you deposit US funds (I would assume however I've not done it).

Yeah I should've been wise to this way earlier. I knew I was getting short changed but chalked it up to my info being out of date. But after dozens of transactions I never saw the conversion in my favour
