Re: New law: Resale of Childrens toys illegal?

So apparently everything made recently and onward have that lead testing done right from the start, now. So that's a bit of a relief.

i don't think we should jump just yet. i don't see the full text of the new law. afterall, this is just one news article. for all we know, they may have spinned it in their own interest...

You people do know it's just the resale of RECALLED toys, right? It seems at least some of you do. That is to say, if you have one of those Cars toys that had the lead paint problem, you can't resell it. This is to prevent parents from unwittingly buying their kids harmful products off ebay and other stuff and places. This does not apply to all toys.

While that of course seems to be the intent of the law, the fact that the article does not make that distinction, and indeed says that it applies to all toys, clothes, and other items used by children under 12. That's why I said it will be interesting to see what it really says and whether this is sloppy journalism, sloppy legislative drafting, or something else.

Sorry, I meant to link to the other article on TFW that specifies the recalled toys only in my post. But for some reason TFW isn't loading. Regardless, don't get al crazy, people, just the interwebs being the interwebs.

EDIT: Here's the thread. Poke around in there and you'll find what I mean.

I see this blowing over just like the whole "orange tip" thing.

I'm not concerned one bit.

Re: New law: Resale of Childrens toys illegal?

Seeing as Hasbro was never involved in the whole "lead toys" debacle, I don't think this is going to affect transformers one bit. Mattel stuff... maybe.

I'm more interested in how this will affect knockoffs, and whether it will force a change in appearance or design of the more common ones, or if they'll just become less prevalent.
