Can anyone tell me if it is really worth it to upgrade from the Rhino versions (for those that have seen both)?

Shout factory does a awesome job remastering the animation colors and the audio which is good to. The price is fair so i say go for it ^-^ but im not too sure when the matrix of leadership full dvd set is coming out in canada but for sure it's going to be very pricey.

Yes it should be but not for awhile. Shout is releasing it online over their website for now and will have it available at SDCC this year for folks to buy there. They then said they will put it out at mass retail, but probably sometime after they release the individual sets.

I would say YES to this upgrade. I was hesitant at first too as I own all the Rhino sets. But people on this forum have enlightened me to the flaws on the Rhino releases. So I am now left furious at Rhino.

I am just unsure whether to pick up these sets individually or to get the Matrix box. Right now I am leaning toward getting them individually.

This is a good review of the Season 1 box it should help you in your decision:
