Rivet Removal

Im looking for some advice on removing the rivets that are used hold the hip and arms on. More specifically the hip joints on the CW silverbolt mold. Any tips on removing it without damaging the figure. I tried punching it out like the normal hinge pins but no luck.

Re: Rivet Removal

It's not easy, but usually u can get it out using a long nail + hammer.
U need to judge which side of the rivet goes out first.

Re: Rivet Removal

I had some loose hips on my cw cyclonus and it wasn't too hard to take the whole torso apart to get at the legs and inspect. If you did that you might have better access to the full leg to work on it?

Re: Rivet Removal

I don't have the mold in front of me, but sometimes putting pieces in the freezer helps. The idea being that metal contracts slightly in the cold, and might be just that little bit of extra help you need.

Have you tried using an automatic center punch?

It's not a pin. It's a blind rivet. If you split the Silverbolt mold in 2 and look at the hip ratchet, it's the one that controls forward and backward movements. I saw one video where a guy heated the head of the rivet with a soldering iron for about 30 seconds then pulled the plastic piece off the rivet. I might try that.

Re: Rivet Removal

Huh, I removed a few rivets with an automatic center punch before.
