Re: Help with Masterpiece Series

If your willing to put down the cash and wait out the characters then the Masterpiece collection is the best bet. For quality sake, try to stick to the Japanese releases.

Here is a little list to help you on your way.

MP-01 Convoy (Optimus Prime, see MP-04, you might want that instead)
MP-02 Ultra Magnus (San his armor)
MP-03 Starscream (Not the G1 colors mind you, see below)
MP-04 Perfect Convoy (Optimus Prime WITH his Trailer)
MP-05 Megatron
MP-06 Skywarp (He is different from the one in stores locally right now, he has a unique face design made for the character)
MP-07 Thundercracker
MP-08 Grimlock

There will be more as time passes, many believe Rodimus Prime or Hot Rod is next for MP-09

There is also variants within the line
MP-01G Convoy (Optimus Prime but in gold, very rare figure)
MP-01B Convoy (Optimus Prime but in black, recent release)
MP-03U Starscream (Starscream USA Edition, this is the MP toy but instead done in his G1 colors, it's called the USA Edition because Walmart USA had it first and might be a cheaper alternative)
MP-08X Grimlock ("King Grimlock" but done in his Marvel comics colors and with Marvel related extras (like a crown) )

Well hope that helps!

Also, be patient on getting MP Grimlock at this point. There's going to be a US release sometime this year. If our luck holds we'll get it in Canada.

Hopefully it comes with the same accessories as the Takara regular release.

Re: Help with Masterpiece Series

thanks guys! Great help, wow you guys are amazing! Gonna get started on some of these right away!

I have a question about MP-02 - Ultra Magnus. Been looking at him online and he doesnt look like the UM I remember - no blue armor, etc. His MP toy just looks like a white prime, and he looks quite different from the cartoon version. Is this one worth getting, or am I just being too picky?

The rest look awesome.

This is Magnus without his armor/trailer from G1. Takara "got away" with this release IMO. This is because Magnus was a white repaint of Prime up until you completely transform him and add his trailer to the body. I speculate that we may see a "Perfect version" of him with his vehicle carrier trailer in the future like they did with MP-1 & MP-4 Convoy...

Also note that a new MP figure has been announced for a June release. This will be another variant and is Ghost Starscream. He'll be a crystal translucent figure, the only question is if it'll be based on the Japan release colors or the USA/G1 color scheme.

The veracity of the ghost starscream release is still in question.

Yeah.......... we don't know if that's real or not, too many different sources.

Re: Help with Masterpiece Series

Just to add my two cents here. You might also want to look at the Binaltech/Alternators line. They're G1 characters decked out in really awsome car modes. The cars modes are base on real life cars and they look like those collectable cars with opening doors and hoods (exposting an engine) that you see in car accessory shops. The robot modes are fifty-fifty in my opinion. Some have really good articulation while others are so-so. But if you're not an articulation freak like me, then they look nice in your standard standing poses for display. They're a step down from a Masterpiece figure but definitely not kids toys.

If you're looking for more info I would suggest youtube. In case you didn't know, people do reviews on figures there. You can see what figures look like out of box and how their transformations look. It's a good place to get opinions and just to see something other than static pictures.

Re: Help with Masterpiece Series

I play with my toys (yes, in my mid 30's) not just leave them hanging around.

I wonder if these break easily?

Also, I doubt there will be a Perfect Magnus....the cost would be too much, unless there was a huge demand of the first one. It's the same mold as Optimus, so it didn't cost them too much to make it. Different story with making a new trailer.

Also, I can guess that a Ghost Starscream is feasible.

The big question.

Who do you want to see at some point? I'd like to see Prowl or Soundwave. Maybe Hound (just thinking of what would be a cool toy).

Re: Help with Masterpiece Series

Upcoming Masterpieces... there's been alot of news leaning towards an MP Rodimus release..we'll see if that's true.

And MP Ghost Starscream. The hoax card was only pulled by the Singapore Store because he released the news way too early. We should hear about it official from HasTak this January.
