Re: Rolling Thunder Optimus Prime 3rd party toy?

Gonna chime in quickly, since someone will bring it up here. People are already raising pitchforks saying they stole Encline's work. These guys have most likely been working on this design since last year, which would be before Encline started his custom.

Based on the silhouette, it seems they made a bunch of changes from Don's design. Their version has 12 wheels, compared to the original 8. And I think Don's design had the entire altmode become the robot mode? This design is suppose to have the altmode split into a robot mode and a separate base mode. So its best to wait to see the actual design before we decide to raise our pitchforks. But I will acknowledge, they did get the idea from Don's work. The guy should stop drawing awesome toy concepts. Then we won't have to worry about 3rd party groups making them real.

Really? People are saying that?

Where the hell is their logic?

Encline himself borrowed the design from already existing sketches. He didn't invent anything. Much like that (super shitty) resin HOS Prime vs the new one recently released.

Well, I shouldn't have said "stole", probably too strong of a word, for what is being said. But they are pointing fingers, saying these guys are taking cues from Encline's work.

Based on my experience, these guys most likely have a prototype or two made already. Which would mean they got most of their design together months ago. Usually, the 3rd party groups will have a prototype on hand, when they release a teaser. But the prototypes range in different types of completeness. Like Impossible Toys. They first showed prototype photos in September 2009. But they already had other prototypes made back at the beginning of 2009. They were just waiting for the right moment to announce the figure.

Re: Rolling Thunder Optimus Prime 3rd party toy?

That's what I was thinking from my experience with third party companies....besides, I don't see how they could take his design. For the longest time his WIP threads were just a picture of the damn head and the underlying body frame. I highly doubt they were able to look at that and extrapolate the transformation sequence. It's obvious they got the design from Don's work like he did, and even took their own liberties (IE another set of wheels, cab splitting/base mode).
