CST-02 NS (Night Stalker) Ironpaw

CST –O2 NS Night Stalker

The CST-O2 Night Stalker is the latest figure to be punched out from KFC Toys.
Based on the Generation One figure ‘Steeljaw’, the figure gets an updated makeover and a ‘re-colour’ to make it an ‘evil’ version named Ironpaw.

Packaging:

Ironpaw comes in a small little red
box (like the Ramhorn). Some cover art, and weight on the card stock make it a reasonable keepsake. Small blister pack inside to maintain the figure in cassette mode and the little cassette case that comes with. Whooo…. Little change. KFC is now taping their boxes shut. That’s right tape on both sides sealing the figure shut inside –and tape with their logo on it. Its a nice touch.

Figure:

The figure itself has a nice little transformation. Nothing too difficult –but getting the head out might be time consuming. Also with the figure constructed the way it is – some looseness should be expected from the figure. The result might be a cat that looks ready to lie down. There are ways to overcome it – but will require some careful touchups. The wings on the figure are not very pronounced. Detail is minimal but nice. The twin guns separate from the figure. A little bit of a struggle might be needed to pull out the gun muzzle.

The black colouring of the figure with the dark grey guns and wings is almost too dark. Those little parts and some of his legs almost get lost in a dark blob. His eyes are also almost non-existent.

Bonus points for the opening and closing mandible.

Overall

Negatives
- due to construction – there will be some looseness that will become more apparent over time.
- Colouring –although the lion is supposed to be stealthy - the little bits tend to get lost and overlooked.

Positives
- He’s definitely an improvement on the g1 figure. The bulk that is obtained in front does lend to the figures overall shape and esthetic quality.
- The quality of plastic is not bad at all. Its malleable enough that there shouldn’t be any stress marks if small little accidents happen.
- Painting for touchups shouldn’t be that much of an issue.

I’m glad I have this figure. Although its not something that I would have in my must have list – its nice to see it make its debut. With the onslaught of Masterpiece styled figures coming out, its nice to see the little ones with decent pricing made available. I’ve always been a fan of the old g1 cassettes, and this should make a nice addition to anyone’s collection if they are completing the cassette army.
