Same here, I actually went back and read the manga before finishing the second series.

Watched the first series and the movies. Just don't have time anymore to make it through the second.

love both! The first one is very dark and dramatic, it makes you feel very different emotions. The second one is an awesome story line that twists and turns and keeps you really engaged. So yes, they are both good but also very different. I recommend watching the first one then the second one right after..... You wont regret it!!!

Re: fullmetal alchemists

My girlfriend lives the show so I had to give it a shot. It really is great. I've only seen the first series and one movie but plan on getting into the 2nd soon

Re: fullmetal alchemists

Well the first series was based on the incomplete manga and the second was based on the completed manga. That's why they both start off very similar but they split off very quickly.

Re: fullmetal alchemists

I've only watched the first series (2004), my wife has watched both (2004 and 2009).

All in all, both series are worthwhile, however. It's probably better to watch them in the order they were released, though.

On a side note, I do know that my absolute favorite scene in the series is much better shown/portrayed in the first series than the second; it's the part right after the brothers failed the resurrection up until Edward bonds Alphonse's consciousness to the armor. There are very often times where Edward and Alphonse remind me of myself and my brother respectively, and that scene in the 2004 series really nails it.
