This morning as I was driving my wife to work the local radio station she enjoys(103.1FM) was having a contest, giving away Transformers tickets for answering trivia questions.

"Who is the leader of the Autobots?"

"Who is the leader of the Decepticons?"

"What planet are the Transformers from?"

All solid but easy stuff. Then they drop the "Brothers" question in. "What relationship do Prime and Megs have?"

Answer: They are brothers

Now while I know that this got dropped into the first film as a Prime sound bite I took it as Prime speaking more metaphorically than anything else, in the All Transformers are brothers sense, than anything more serious.

So was the question a fair trivia question? Is it accurate to say Prime and Megs are brothers......I mean they don't even combine into an Icecream truck or anything.

I think in the Bayverse, they are in fact brothers. I mean why not? It may explain why they were both leaders on Cybertron before everything fell apart.

It makes Megatron going rogue all the more impacting. Not only did he turn his back on his planet, his race, and his civilization to pursue his goals, he betrayed his own brother.

Imagine if Sunstreaker suddenly turned around and went on a murdurous rampage against the Autobots, starting out by trying to kill Sideswipe. That's pretty much how far movie Megatron went to the dark side.

edit: Now that I think about it, that might be the main reason Prime wanted to sacrifice himself. He couldn't bring himself to kill his own brother. He didn't seem to show as much restraint when fighting against other Decepticons.

From reading the Defiance comic... it doesn't seem like they are brothers, it seems more like they are "brothers" as in they were once so close, it was like being brothers. There is nothing at all mentioning that there are families, so technically, they would be all brothers and sisters, in a way.

True, they were brothers in that they shared the same sort of burdens that came with leadership, they were both held in the same status position, I'll bet they consulted each other on matters, and trusted each other with their lives. They were like "blood brothers".

edit: I think my earlier post would hold as well with this whole "blood brother" thing.

hum...does it depend on which series or version of the TF generation ?
IN some cases, Megatron seems to be an invader rather than originated from cybertron; then, how could they become brother.
Movie 2 even has different approach of the story line. If Optimus is the only super leader class left in the good side, then where does it put the Ultra magnus?

well i don't think so.i think it makes more sence for the fallen to be primes brother.

the fallen was once a prime.optimus is a prime.when the two are fighting the fallen says "you will die like your brothers"obviously talking about the other primes.
and then optimus says "they were your brothers too!" so does that mean the two are bros?

Could it be that "brother"has a wider meaning in cybertronian?

If multiple Cybrertronians are hatched at the same time , then all from the same "brood" would be brothers and sisters

Megs and Opt could be the only pure"bloodline" from the original PrimesAKA gen 3 where the war of the Primes killed more of the G2 "bloodline".
(I say there has to be a Generation , that they were leaders of, before the FAllen... er, fell)

Opt inhereted his Prime title directly becasuse of this and having earnined it. The Fallen was stripped of his rank and therefore, Megs could not get that title (Megatron Prime).

So Megs and Opt ARE considered brothers being born in the same generation?

Just some Ideas.
