And since he's part of the picture...
ANIMATED VOYAGER SHOCKWAVE
PROS
-4 modes!
-robot modes have really good articulation (especially Shockwave, whose head can turn unlike Longarm)
-all parts are changing (head, shoulder, upper arms, forearms, hands, waist, hips, lower legs) when changing from one robot mode to the other)
-flip out crane hook/cannon
-CHROMED faction symbols (gold for Decepticons, silver for Autobots)
-very cool head transformation
-cool colors
CONS
-ALERT: Longarm's hand ball joints (made of softer plastic) are insanely tight... if you try to rotate them into place for Shockwave, you might end up breaking them... LOOSEN THE SCREWS!
-tank mode and crane mode are a bit weak...
-transformation from tank mode to crane mode is maybe overly simplistic... wish there was more to it... it's pretty much just Longarm falling flat on his face after tripping
-ratcheting joints are made of softer plastic and could wear out faster over time than similar joints made of harder plastic... and because of that the rear portion of the tank/crane tends to sag a bit when you lift the toy.
-Decepticon symbol visible on the crane between the legs when Longarm is in robot mode
-I know the toy is pretty show-accurate, but I wish the colors for Longarm were more radically different than the ones found on Shockwave... as it is, they pretty much look like brothers... even more obvious in vehicle mode
I don't think it's THE Animated toy to have. We got all excited because it was new, but after playing with it for a while, you quickly realize it's flawed. The alternate modes are weak (I deeply hate H-like tanks - f*u Armada Megatron!) and the durability of the joints is highly questionable. Robot modes are awesome though. With 4 modes (ok, 3.5 since the crane mode is a mere variation on the tank mode), it offers a lot of playability. It's pretty much how G1 Punch/Counterpunch should have been made from the start (2 robots, 2 vehicles). I still recommended Shockwave if not only for historical purposes (first spy TF with 2 modes for each faction).
