Re: Transformers ONLY for kids?

Look, I collect Transformers. And I haven't been called a "big kid" yet by anyone.

But whenever I buy transformers and whenever an adult looks at me (which they haven't so far), I just tell them that it's a birthday present for my little brother/cousin.

Re: Transformers ONLY for kids?

I've been collecting forever, and for the longest time, I didn't even know that there were others like me, let alone so many. 10 to 15 years ago some freinds would se the collection, but it wasnt something that i advertised, I was maybe even a little embarrassed. Now that its so big I have no choice but to let people know about it before they see it, I remember having to sit the new girlfreind down before she came into my house for the first time... and say.. listen.. theres somthing I need to tell you before you see the basement.. hahaha.

Re: Transformers ONLY for kids?

I have never been ridiculed for my collecting, a few people roll their eyes but I don't really care what they think. My collection is for me and as long as I am getting satisfaction from it nothing else matters.

It's never bothered me......

But then I do ridicule people for smoking and drinking booze all the time some I'm something of a hypocrit.

Re: Transformers ONLY for kids?

For a while my wife was the only person who verbalized her dismay over my ever growing Transformers collection. However in her defence she did once acknowledge that TFs are 'great toys' because they make kids think during the conversion process.

After we got married all my TFs eventualy migrated to my office at work while her woven basket (no joke) and essential oils collection contined to grow at home.

During a rather heated discussion over $30 spent on Henkei Bumblebee I explained to her that there were far worse vices (i.e., smoking, porn, Nikes worth $200+, drugs, etc.) and that we should both be allowed our little hobbies so long as they weren't ridiculously priced. I also added that all my toys will eventually be passed down to our son after he turns 12 (he's 2 now).

So now we both have our "hobbies". She's got her baskets and scents and I have a kick ass office display that I get to play with when I'm on the phone and on hold.

Thank God for hands free headsets.

I was fortunate that the wife supported me from the start...in fact she has bought me a handful of them...I actually got her into her own hobby as well. Off topic though....I also have some of my friends roll their eyes from time to time.

Re: Transformers ONLY for kids?

My Girlfriend loves to make fun of me for my transformers collecting.

She feels that Transformers are "toys" and re-inforces the fact that they are "toys" because I buy them in the toy section.

Yet she doesn't mind the other things I collect (Horror Movie figures, Vintage Stuff, etc) because they are "collectibles" or figures geared towards adults. The Transformers bug her the most though.

Then I pointed out my Masterpiece figures and my imports and how much some of them were worth. She understands a bit more now.

She still loves me, that's all that matters!

Cheers!
