He paid lots of money for it, and regrets it because seeing so many of them at once erodes the cachet it had as rare.
Or he didn't buy one at all, and now wants one.

Or perhaps Thundercracker did something to him as a child...psychologically, I mean.
I remember the Quintessons and Sharticons scaring the crap outta me as a child. Not to the point where I pissed myself, mind you, but I did avoid watching G1 seasons 3 and 4 (or was that because Rodimus Prime annoyed me?).
