Retailers paid for these things six months ago, so their prices are based on costs back then. Also, nobody expects the dollar to remain this strong - every time it's happened, the Bank of Canada has tried to push it back down to the 75 - 80 cents range. So no-one wants to waste a lot of money changing things they'll need to change again soon. Also, a lot of DVDs are made in Canada so relative dollar strengths mean nothing; blame the studio for that one. And, lastly, people are accustomed to paying those prices, and are paying those prices, so the stores are enjoying increased margins. Given how costs of operations are going through the roof (electricity costs keep going up, rents are going up, wages are skyrocketing) can you blame them?
In the meantime, vote with your wallet & buy it online from the States. Amazon.com is a lot cheaper than Amazon.ca...
