Re: Alternators Question
I'd suggest Smokescreen/Silverstreak as well, but Jazz/Shockwave being a very similar transformation but also having actual backseats instead of legs as backseats, I give the win to Jazz/Shockwave. Although I suppose you could write off the legs in the backseat on Smokescreen as "weight reduction" on a rally car. But overall I think that style of transformation suits the Alternators (and Binaltech) the best due to the overall articulation in all limbs.
(and I'm with Jourdo, the Alt/BT line is one of my favorite lines of TFs, only second to G1 and its only due to nostalgia that I can put G1 ahead)

Re: Alternators Question
I really like Tracks for g1 to Alternators comparison. Though if you are going for one the example I really recommend spending the cash and getting the Binaltech version of what ever you finally decide on.

Re: Alternators Question
Get something that is not in the Binaltech line like Alternators Ravage based on the Jaguar XK or Rumble

Re: Alternators Question
I would suggest Rodimus/Mirage in that order. Reason being, IMHO that mould has the best combination of looks, articulation, and kibble that doesn't get in the way too much. Next in line would be Jazz and Tracks. Jazz is very comparable to Smokescreen to give you a baseline for comparison.

Re: Alternators Question
I almost had them all and I sold them off except for two, Silverstreak and Swindle. I thought they represented the line well enough. I wish I would have kept Mirage, but c'est la vie.

Re: Alternators Question
Mirage is probably my favourite.
Outside of that I like Wheeljack and Shockblast. For representing their G1 selves I like Hound and Tracks.
Overall, Alternators aren't one of my favourite lines. Maybe due to the lack of Decepticons that I more commonly collect or maybe the fact they are all cars. I don't know; maybe it's the fact they don't feel like toys sometimes...
Anyway, I have them all, but I guess if I had to cut my collection, I could probably cut half of them without thinking too hard.

Re: Alternators Question
I'd say Hound as well.
However I have them all and IMHO they are the best line let. But that's because I like the there size, alt and bot modes are wicked and if you're an in the closest TF fan they display just like large scale diecast car models.
A big plus is that they display well with MP tfs.

Re: Alternators Question
i'm going to side with jourdo on this.
smokescreen was my first, and iirc, the only alt with so much history and variants.
the binaltech story even had him as the very first autobot to become binaltech(iirc also )
