In related news, Abrams was rightfully crowned "King of the Film Franchise-obsessed Nerds".

Now if he can somehow take over directing the remaining Hobbit movies, all of Disney's Marvel films and Transformers 4 and beyond then he can be rightfully addressed as "Emporer of the Film Franchise-obsessed Nerds"."

This is like Picard suddenly showing up as a Jedi (okay maybe not exactly like that). I'm sure some Trekkies are freaking out.

I'm glad because 1) at least Lucas isn't directing. And 2) it's not Snyder. I was afraid Snyder would be lured away from Superman. I believe Man of Steel will be amazing.

This is fantastic news. I loved the way JJ directed Star Trek and honestly think he's the right fit.

Can't wait to be blinded by his signature lens flares...haha. Love it.
I'm sure he'll bring in Michael Giacchino to do the score.

With all the lens flare from the lightsaber battles already in Ep 2 and 3, and now JJ is the director?

Hopefully he'll direct all three, and then reboot the prequels.

Just make it a collaborative production again. Afaik, Lucas had control over every little thing in the prequels that I don't think anyone ever really went up against him and his ideas.
