TFA Supreme Optimus Prime review

Ok, another short review...

TRUCK MODE

More or less the size of MP-01. Heavy, but not THAT heavy. Feels and looks a bit plastic-y. You can trigger a bunch of sounds and lights by either rolling it (engine sounds + flashing yellow headlights) or pressing the Autobot symbol (Let's go! Roll out!) or the 2 buttons on top of the cab (sirens or Let's go! + engine sounds). Axe is stored on the back in similar fashion to DLX Earth Mode Optimus Prime. The front wheels don't actually touch much the ground because there is another set of smaller wheels under the cab to trigger the sounds and auto-tranformation.

TRANSFORMATION

First split the legs a bit to remove the axe. Move the switch (located on front of the cab) to the left and roll the truck forward until the arms and head are fully deployed (head must face rear to when transformation is complete). After that, extend the legs (spring-loaded knee guards will pop forward), flip up the feet, swing the rear wheels toward the inside of the legs, move the hinged front wheels rearward to attach them to the lower legs, swing down the legs (spring-loaded waist skirt will follow), flip out the fists, insert axe in right fist, push button on left hand to pop out the the blades and the flames and you're done! You can also put the axe in the left fist but there is no trigger on that hand to pop out the blades and the flames.

To transform it back to truck mode, you basically untransform it and roll it in reverse (or you can turn the cab manually). A bit harder to do imo.

ROBOT MODE

Again, pretty much the same height as MP-01. Articulation is pretty limited in the upper half : you can swing the arms in and out at the shoulder or move the lower right forearm up and down (straight or bent 90 degrees at the elbow). That's it. Poseabily is good for the legs though, although a bit limited to rear because of the butt-ery compartment. In this mode, you can also trigger a bunch of sounds and lights by pressing the Autobot symbol (My name is Optimus Prime! Bring it on! - with eyes flashing yellow), by pressing the 2 buttons on the shoulders (sirens) or by pushing on the tabs located on the right arm (axe clashing action with sounds) or the left arm (punching action with sounds). After 3 or 4 repetive arm moves, Prime will laugh (Haha!).

It might not appeal to all collectors, but kids will surely love it.

Btw, the voice does sound like David Kaye to me, but I could be wrong. Sometimes voice actors sound off when they do such recordings, so who knows.

PROS

-auto-transform features works flawlessly
-various sounds, phrases and lights
-mouthplate moves in sync with the speech
-axe

CONS

-transformation is too easy for the price
-limited poseability
-a bit tough to transform back to truck mode
-butt-ery pack
-axe looks out of place in truck mode
-the lightbar on top... despite having a blue and a red side, both sides flash red (so red through red and red through blue)

Re: TFA Supreme Optimus Prime review

This is a pretty easy pass for me. It's a great toy and if I had a young one I would totally pick it up for them, but from a collector's stand point, it's just not my thing. It's a shame they couldn't incorporate the battery back better into the design, but I don't think it would bother kids at all. I'll be happy with just a voyager Prime. Thanks for the pics and review Pascal

Thanks for the review and pics Pascal. The butt-ery pack is a real eye sore. The moving mouth plate is cool though...

Too bad it is not a much articulated figure in proportion to the size of it.

Re: TFA Supreme Optimus Prime review

As far as Supreme figures are concerned, Primus and Unicron still are at the top. I'd say that ROC Prime is better than Cheetor, maybe equal to Starscream and equal or inferior to AA Primal.

That axe is SEX!!! It is too awesome. IMO, the figure is an accesory to the axe, not the other way around. The mouth moving is cool, butt-ery pack doesn't bother me at all. Articulation is okay for me, and that almost looks identicle to the show model.
