Re: Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime MP-44: U.S. and Canada Release News
This is such a strange release.
I can only assume from the price point that no major retailer in the US wanted to touch this with a ten foot pole. So that pushed it down the line to GameStop/EBgames and online retailers. Now they are also putting it out to comic shops?!? Trying to cast a wide net.
They really are pushing the envelope with their pricing. I wonder if they will ever get to a point where they try the Haslab method to release something truly monster size/price?

Re: Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime MP-44: U.S. and Canada Release News
With recent third party release of a more cartoonish looking prime (backpack issue) at a third of cost Hasbro should be rethinking price point or truly put the engineering to make him cartoon accurate from all perspectives to justify this cost ...also the many reissues they will no doubt do to put profit in pocket in future.....
After all it is for the KIDS right.

Re: Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime MP-44: U.S. and Canada Release News
It all started with Megatron.
And people shouted "Take my money now!"
And the community is paying the price.
Collectively, people voted with their wallets for this new price structure.
And the consequences now, are that less people are buying, which leaves the "Take my money now" crowd to keep on chanting it.

Re: Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime MP-44: U.S. and Canada Release News
Megatron was a different matter. Before MP-36, Takara hadn't succeeded in developing an MP scale version of Megatron that was (relatively) realistic in alt mode, toon-accurate in bot mode, and in scale with other MPs. MP-36 was a real achievement in toy design and collectors were rightly excited about it.
Meanwhile, there have already been two kicks at the can for MP Optimus Prime, and between the two molds there have been umpteen thousand reissues, repaints and redecoes. A third version of Optimus Prime just isn't as inherently interesting as Megatron 2.0 or any other long-awaited character that hasn't gotten the MP treatment yet. MP-44 succeeds at being as toon-accurate as any MP Optimus Prime has been so far, but at 2x to 3x the price you paid for MP-10. For all these reasons, it's the first G1 MP release that failed my "Is it worth it?" test.
And let's not forget that while we're being served up the most expensive Optimus Prime ever, there's still no Jazz, Mirage, Skids, Reflector, Mini-Cars, Dinobots, Insecticons, etc, etc.

Well guys, just wait for the 3rd party companies upgrade version with better paint, better sound (in English), and 1/3 of the price.
