Very brief review of AOE Voyager Prime and Grimlock

A very simple review of AOE Voyager Prime and Grimlock might as well put it here.
Prime:
First off, the vehicle mode is pretty damn nice. Even the transformation is quite nice and not 1-2-3 either. It takes a bit of work which I like. Now, if not for the Truck mode alone, I recommend this figure. That said, part of why the paint apps are bland, especially the feet area, is because you see it in truck mode. I still plan on repainting this anyway cause I actually do like this figure

His robot mode is where we have the colour issue. I dig the G1 idea of painting him but he seriously needs to be less bland. The silver highlights he does have is nice, but he needs more going on than he has. Also, I am done with the mouth for Prime. Mask, just give me a damn mask. It's iconic.
His articulation is really not that bad. Only place I dislike is the elbows, but par for transformation, it is what it is. Otherwise, knees, feet, waist, head, arms even knee pads, you can get decent posing out of him.

For scale with Deluxe Prime Prime (snicker)

Grimlock...is a MESS. Granted, I still think TFA got Grimlock right. Beast mode is just a mess and doesn't really appeal to me. Maybe repaint and modifications, maybe it can work. For now, this is a mess.

Robot mode is somewhat more appealing. As a Grimlock, it's all sorts of terrible. As a robot dino, he's a solid figure. Plenty of articulation, big ass mace, looks a bit intimidating.

His back side however is horrible

Again, you can get some nice posing with him

All in all, I like Optimus. Needs paint for robot mode, but I like it. Grimlock, needs Dino modification and better paint scheme. Robot mode I don't mind so much. More of an "on sale" item really.

When I have time, I will take better pics for the photo thread. For now, shitty iphone pics is enough

Thank you sir.
After seeing the back of Grimlock, I decide I won't even buy it at half price, after all, this toy is only half complete.

Much better than Grimlock. Though to be fair, Grimlocks beast lower jaw is most of his back...but then still hollow.

Re: Very brief review of AOE Voyager Prime and Grimlock

I'll be honest, I LIKE the Prime. Once I repaint him I will love it, but as a figure, it's pretty damn solid. I am gonna take some better detail pics shortly but the poses Prime can pull off is more impressive than I would have thought.
Articulation:
Wrists rotate
Feet rotate and swivel
Knees rotate
Thighs can rotate back and forward and to the side. Also can rotate to 90 degree for sitting pose
Torso rotates
Elbows rotate
Above the elbow rotates
Arms on ball joints
Head on ball joint
Neck can move up and down. I mean he's pretty F***IN awesome. Bland colours aside, given I can and will repaint him, I am very surprised by how much I did this figure.

He does look awesome, he's the movie Prime no one was expecting but many were hoping for. Next step for Hasbro is to give us a Leader version of that thing with no cheats!
