Why was anyone on Jedha? They probably couldn't get off the planet due to the Imperial occupation.
Chirrut's undying faith that the holy city would be liberated and Baze's faith in Chirrut probably grounded them too.

Yeah their relationship was pretty much "Run and hide." and "I'll always be there for you...bye!". I wanted more there too but so many 'splosions and so little time meant cuts in character development.

Why wouldn't they join Jyn in the fight? Their home city was destroyed. Nothing to go back too. Sounds like what happened to Luke when his Aunt and Uncle died. "There's nothing for me here now". Sort of. To me it was believable. They also shared the same hate for the Empire.

I think they needed to explicitly express that like Luke did. The reason is there, but it's left unsaid.
