Re: Older Marvel trading cards
I'm going to digress a little here. Did anyone besides me collect and now have a huge collection of worthless Pogs?
And I didn't experience this personally, but my friend told me back in his elementary school during the Pog craze, your social status was determined by how many Pogs you had. That's right, during that year or two, there were no geeks, cool kids, jocks, etc. but your social status was determined by how many paper discs you could slam.
Did anyone have this at their school? Is my friend a liar or did he have one of those weird schools?

Re: Older Marvel trading cards
Like FreedomGundam, I too went on ebay and completed some of the stuff I was missing.
The '94 Spider-Man cards is one of the few sets I have, and proudly completed or thought I completed.... After this thread started, I looked up for fun what my collection is worth now on ebay (12-20 for base set of 150 cards, more for chase cards) and find out there were 2 more sets of exclusive chase cards that were not available in the normal packs. First set was only available in repackaged "Jumbo packs" and the second set was a Walmart exclusive and on a limited run.
16 years later I found out my proud collection of Spider-man cards were never ever complete. My life is a sham.

Yeah, when I end up buying that '94 Amazing Spider-Man set eventually, I'm not sure I'm gonna hunt down the two Gold-Web chase sets...
Sorta like the Spider-Man Premium '96 - Eternal Evil set: there's one chase set of 3 "HoloMotion" cards; I've only seen one eBay auction for all 3 cards, and it ran for about $120-160... too expensive for my blood, unfortunately.

lol pogs....that brings back memories. We had them in school but it didn't change your social status at all. If you slammed pogs fine then for that recess or lunch break jocks, cool kids, skaters, geeks, losers could coexist...but only if you where playing pogs.

Re: Older Marvel trading cards
Alrighty.
Now that I've gotten the majority of things that I need (at prices that I was willing to pay), I'd like to share my resources from the past couple of weeks, since it seems that there are a few of you guys here that are still looking for some older stuff (either complete sets or singles).
The ComicCollectorLive community: online community of people selling things online, but is also an encyclopedia of collections, artists, comics, etc... both new and old. I've had multiple pleasant transactions with the sellers "Pawl's Attic" and "Legends (vol2)".
http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/
GoldNova Collectibles: a site that looks really dated, but the guy specializes in non-sports cards from way back; very little recent stuff there. Plenty of chase cards for sale, chase sets, regular cards. You'll have to e-mail him about single cards, though. Has all sorts of stuff from superhero stuff (Marvel, DC, etc), sci-fi (star trek, etc), TV and movies, girls (Playboy and the like).
http://home.golden.net/~goldnova/index.htm
And for reference/search purposes:
AB's Checklist: major checklist of Marvel cards (probably has some DC stuff as well). Last updated in Jan 2009, but has extensive lists of all Marvel series until then.
http://abs-cards.net/checklists/
eBay, as always, works... but should be a last resort.

Thanks for the tips. I also checked and I have an uncompleted 1995 Fleer X-Men set that maybe I'll complete one day.

When I was looking for stuff I needed a few weeks ago, I lazily went straight to eBay and paid more than I should of.
Turns out, I still had some holes in my collection and used this opportunity to try out those sites. And wow, the prices are fantastic, as well as the ppl., and it was a much better experience than going to eBay.
I don't know how you found GoldNova and ComicCollectorLive, but I am very glad you did.
