'To crown or not to crown?'...
...or, 'Takara versus Hasbro Masterpiece Grimlock just for the crown?', that is the question.
Possibly due to the hype generated by the recent release of the scantly stocked TRU-exclusive version I have an opportunity to pickup an MP-08 at slightly more than the MSRP of Hasbro MP Grimmy (not the inflated scalper prices mind you, but the in store price for of $69.99 CAD).
The only hitch is there's no crown. Just the bow-tie, apron, platter, glasses and brain transfer unit. I think I can live without the crown but it conveys so much bad-assery that in a moment of weakness last year I actually considered shelling out some serious coin for a 'bling blingy' MP-08x.
Whew, thank the maker I didn't. But I digress...
So for anyone who owns both can you enlighten me?: Which do you prefer? Do the extra paint apps, duller teeth/claws and crown on the Hasbro version make it worth while to wait (pray) for more stock?
Or should I pickup the Japanese version while I can and perhaps find the iGear after market crown?

I would do this. That's a really good price for the Takara Grimlock, and the aftermarket crown can't be that hard to get. Plus it comes with a mini Thrust for him to chomp on!

I have the iGear crown, the molding is terrible. The other accessories are nice though.

The extra paint apps are nice on the Hasbro one, aside from the weird looking white/red ones on his arm/dino leg. The dull teeth and claws are a big issue in Dino mode. He doesn't look threatening... However, the Hasbro version shines in Robot mode!
Thats my opinion of course. My Takara one is in Dino mode, hasbro one is in Robot mode, with the crown

I'd trade the crown for the apron and stuff.

I plan to sell/trade my Hasbro Grimmy's crown as I don't care for it. I don't think I like crowns on TFs at all...
I figured someone with the Takara one might want a crown and I could use the $ for more TFs!

That's what I did
Both have their pros and cons, but in my opinion, the Takara version takes the cake. I am a big fan of the waiter set.
