Takara or Hasbro? Giving your money the best products
in terms of on who makes the best products on toys and transformers, which is the king of toy making?
In the way i see it I think Takara is the best because they do a great job on paint work with transformers and filling in the gaps that hasbro does a half ass job on their TF products.
And also takara also have the following the hasbro does not:
Masterpiece Line (note Hasbro only has 2 mp's prime and starscream)
Henkei
Encore G1 Reissue
TF Robotech
so with that im a proud Takara fan

Re: Takara or Hasbro? Giving your money the best products
I agree, Takara is better, but in terms of price/quality, I think Hasbro does a pretty decent job at their price point.
I've never bought a Henkei version of a Universe figure, and I probably won't.
That said I love the Encore and Masterpiece lines! I agree with you there.

Overall, I prefer Takara. MP, Binaltech, reissue, oddities like Sports Label, Music Label, Mickeymus Prime, better decos.

Takara is willing to take more chances on certain figures than Hasbro.

I vote for Tomy-Takara. They seems to be willing to try new ideas/product lines and their paint job is usually better w/ more details.

Re: Takara or Hasbro? Giving your money the best products
It varies. Some stuff I'm not willing to pay extra for, some stuff I am.
For instance, I'll be going with the US release of MP Grimlock when that inevitably happens.
But I will be getting some Henkei figures along with their US decoes (eg, Ironhide)

Re: Takara or Hasbro? Giving your money the best products
We had an "encore" line years ago that went no where. Most of the stock had to be sold at discount prices. Just seems that G1 figures sell better in Japan then here....blame the market, not the company.

Re: Takara or Hasbro? Giving your money the best products
I am guessing that you are referring to the Commemorative line. I think that one of the reasons that they did not sell was that they where really inferior to the Takara release (nice binder style info and missiles that fired) If you are going to aim a line at collectors, avoid removing features, Hasbro!

Re: Takara or Hasbro? Giving your money the best products
If given a choice between a Hasbro version and a Takara-Tomy version of a figure, like with the Classics line, my first choice is always the Hasbro figure. They are less expensive and easier to get than the Japanese equivalent. I'll only get the Takara-Tomy version if there is something wrong with the Hasbro version (like Cyclonus' 2-tone thighs, or Ironhide's light blue windows and face).
I prefer ALTs to BTs, and have bought more figures from predominantly-Hasbro lines (like Animated and the movie line) than Takara-Tomy lines (like Encore).

Re: Takara or Hasbro? Giving your money the best products
Keep in mind why Takara (more so Japan) gets the "better" stuff. It's the market. There is a larger group of males between the ages of 16-40 that are willing to drop insane ammounts of money on toys then in America and thus that's why they have toys will more paint apps (thus more $$), reissue lines that never end and so on.
But knock Hasbro all you like, but without them we would not have Transformers at all..... and when the momentem died for TFs after the G2 era.... it was Hasbro and Kenner that brought everything back to life with Beast Wars, not Takara.
