Re: Potential good news on Canada customs?
I would definitely be shopping more at TFSource and BBTS if this came to pass. eBay is quite a pain nowadays.

Re: Potential good news on Canada customs?
eBay is hit or miss depending on the seller. If this chatter does indeed result in the positive for us, I might consider it more often, but they still won't be go-to sources for me as pricing is usually still more competitive for most items when they come direct from Japan or Hong Kong/China.

^ especially considering I get hit with customs fees maybe one time out of five, sucks when it happens but I don't expect it as an added cost, yet

I'm curious to know if Canada's duty trigger is $20 for all countries or just part of NAFTA alone? May explain the hit or miss when importing. Time for more research.

Re: Potential good news on Canada customs?
The only reason why this might pass is because Canada Customs can't keep up with the drastic increase in online shopping in the past few years. It's actually impacting delivery times as we've all experienced. Packages are being held for longer durations by border services cause of high volumes.
I hope this doesn't equate to actually seeing more packages getting nailed with customs coming in from non-US/Mexico countries like Japan. My understanding was any product not made in US/Mexico was fair game for customs, regardless of what country you import it from. More clarification is needed for sure.

Value in Canadian dollars

Any item shipped into Canada from anywhere with a value of $20 or more is subject to duty or tax

Re: Potential good news on Canada customs?
I would be happy if it bumped up to 400.00. Most of what I buy for the U.S. is usually less than that.

Re: Potential good news on Canada customs?
Most of the Transformers that we get are manufactured in either China or Vietnam. This will have ZERO affect on us because there are already agreements in place for most toys that come from those Countries to be duty-free.
This will not affect the limits that have been set for GST/HST assessment so we will still get dinged there after $20 and that means Canada Post will still be assessing the $9.95 plus tax COD Fee (which is not duty either).
The ONLY way this will help us at all is if they raise the tax assessment level, which they have no intention of doing.

Re: Potential good news on Canada customs?
Yep most people just don't, and won't, get what duty is. Duty means import tariff's. That is a specific tax on a specific item (of class of item). Like cloths do in the US. So this might make ordering from the LL Bean catalogue cheaper. But that's it.

Re: Potential good news on Canada customs?
I honestly haven't found any of the reporting clear on whether they're referring to tax or duty.
