Re: 15 Years Ago - TRU Commemorative Series

Wow-we, I don't think I've ever seen it so nicely stocked when they came out around here. At most I would see about 5 of each :/

Re: 15 Years Ago - TRU Commemorative Series

I miss commemorative series greatly! It gave me a chance to get some figures I missed in the 80's and for others to replace the used/or broken ones I had with minty new ones.
I was able to complete my G1 series 1 figures, and I own most of series 2 and series 3 all thanks to that commemorative line.
And yeah, $40 seemed like a lot at the time but I would gladly do it again in a second.

It seems like a missed opportunity fto me for both collectors and for Hasbro. The molds already exist so why not steadily release a few figures each year, putting them in a nice box but none of this "platnium edition" b.s.

Ya I can tell (without looking at the title) that these pics aren't from a Walmart cuz there's actually something in these pics to purchase. LoL

Re: 15 Years Ago - TRU Commemorative Series

I bought a few of these (together with the Takara "Collection" series which also has the book style packaging). It was nice that Hasbro released these here for the fandom. However, they were not too well received, at least not every bots. I remembered at the end of the run some of them were on clearances, e.g. Hoist was $5 or so.

Re: 15 Years Ago - TRU Commemorative Series

Great pics OP
It is a shame that they didn't do better. Maybe we would've got commemorative combiner giftsets too along with later season's characters. Also wish they made wheeljack and mirage but I'm guessing the molds no longer existed or broke

Re: 15 Years Ago - TRU Commemorative Series

Fresh & minty is great, but (as anyone who has made the mistake of attempting to "upgrade" originals with reissue parts knows) the reissue lines lack the quality of the originals. That was probably a factor in their lackluster sales performance. Although, imo Takara Collection series were the best of the reissues.

What's wrong with the Platinum editions?

Most people are just complaining about the price.
