Via TF-Factory on Weibo, we’ve got some images to share of the packaging for some future Power of the Primes releases. These images show the front and back of the box of Leader class Optimal Optimus aka Optimus Primal, who can store his matrix in the cockpit on his chest in a homage to the Beast Wars episode Optimal Situation. Wait....so Optimal Optimus isn't a quad-changer this time around? Looks like just bot and monkey modes based on that box art. Excitement diminishing.

Well, no, he doesn't have the 4 modes from the original. Jet mode can be approximated, but he lacks wheels to do the "truck".

However the smaller robot serving as a surfboard or artillery pack for the gorilla mode, while not faithful to the design, adds a ton of play value and "extra modes", IMO

I'm down for Optimal Optimus -- he looks great in bot and munky mode, and I've always thought the other "vehicle" modes looked dumb anyhow.

yeah, first of all, how is this news to anybody?

and I agree with you. His "four-changer" ability is hilarously token, much like the extra modes of any of the Transmetal toys. Flight mode is ape with a cockpit. Wheel mode is ape laying around.

I have zero issues with them keeping those modes out. Who cares? Robot and ape are important.

I am excited for this Optimal. It does look like a lot of fun, regardless if not fully BW faithful in transformations. You get a Primal on the side as well.
