GPS strikes again!

So here I was today, transforming Armada Optimus Prime from super robot mode back to regular robot mode, and suddenly disaster struck not once, but twice.

First his antler busted off at the joint, and then his arm broke off at the elbow.

Keep in mind that this figure's been stored for most of its lifespan, and has hardly been displayed or even transformed.

There's something common about both pieces: they're both gold metal fleck plastic, and they're both on joints.

I'm starting to think that as time goes on, more and more metal fleck figures are going to suffer the same fate. Maybe not as bad as Beast Wars Transmetal Megatron, but still, GPS.

Luckily, I happen to have a junker figure and managed to swap out the arm without much trouble. The antler's still off, but I may be able to use some superglue to place it back on since it isn't a load bearing structure.

Aside from the antler and a couple of paint scuffs on the donor arm, its good as new.

Yeah, Armada Prime's suseptibility to GPS is well documented: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/GPS#Universe_...29.2FCybertron

Still sucks though.

Re: GPS strikes again!

I'm surprised no 3rd party company out there has reproduced some of these GPS parts in non-GPS plastic (not even necessarily gold/brass/brown/whatever).

I mean, even someone on Shapeways could produce something like that.

It would save many figures from the scrap heap

Re: GPS strikes again!

Just got a new MOSC BW Soundwave and GPS struck right away. An unidentified bit first fell off fell and the joint for one of the rear leg joints broke (still functional). Trying to close the belly halves proved to be a terrifying experience with abundant creaking noises. Ended up shaving some of the plastic to add some clearance. Not sure I'll transform that thing back to bat mode...
