Some observations on the 08 Bumblebee
Picked up this figure earlier today and have been fiddling around with it since. It's a great figure, probably the best deluxe in the movie line. Although there are few contentious issues about it, I consider them minor and don't detract from the overall joy from the figure.
The first thing I noticed before I opened it up is the paint job. It's splotchy in some areas. It's most noticeable on the edges of the doors and windows, basically anywhere there's clear plastic. As I said though it's still very minor.
When I opened it up a piece from BB's shoulder panel fell off. I freaked out for a second, but I realized that these pieces could detach, so no harm no foul.
One thing about the Transformation. The front end wheels pull out to form the shoulders, but the one that I got was extremely stubborn. Make certain that it's pulled out enough to allow the front chassis to fold down otherwise the automorph gimmick with the doors folding back won't work. After that the rest of the transformation is easy.
Unlike other DLXs, this one has limited waist articulation thanks to a ball joint. However the automorph feature makes it top heavy, so my figures tends to flop whenever I handle it. This might become an issue over time.
Overall a fantastic figure. In my opinion it is the definitive deluxe movie toy. This figure a long with Leader Optimus are the ones to own. Now I need Longarm and Leader Brawl to recreate a pivotal moment in the movie.
I'm betting Hasbro comes out with a variant of this toy. They could call it Battle Mask Bumblebee and feature shoulder mounted missile launchers and of course a battle mask head sculpt. Anyway, pick it up when you can. I have a feeling this'll be a hot seller.
