Re: Smoking-free environment

I've bought ARAH Joes from smokers and I had to completely disassemble them, scrub them clean, leave the parts in baking soda in the freezer for a couple weeks, and replace the rubber gaskets. Weapons had to sit in the freezer for a lot longer and still smell a little bit.

I can't imagine taking a Transformer completely apart to clean them but they'd need it. Joe vehicles have the same issue. The harder plastic is pretty resistant to the smell getting into it, but it gets on the surface in every nook and cranny and you HAVE to clean it out with a toothbrush or something.

To me the most damaging part is the smell. I bought some super cheap figures from a smoker once and they still reek of cigarette.

Re: Smoking-free environment

Smoke, especially cigarette smoke, makes me physically ill. It's a disgusting habit, and not only can it damage a toy, but the smell lingers. I've had to throw out toys that I accidentally bought from a moron smoker who didn't disclose their disgusting habit.
Thanks to the people who do disclose it though, and to those who say their stuff is from a smoke free environment.

I also bought a toy one time from someone who burned insence. That toy smelled so bad... It took almost a year of having that toy out of its packaging, airing out in my furnace room, before I could handle it. Had to throw out the box though, that never aired out. I really wanted to keep that box.. :/

Yep. I've bought a few toys and they have reeked of smoke.

Re: Smoking-free environment

Yeah it seems to have become a bigger concern for collectors lately. Personally I haven't had anything yet that came from a smoker, but my dad used to smoke like a chimney and when he stopped it was night and day for how his clothing and surroundings smelled.
