No, it probably costs them $7 to subsidize the rest of the postal system while shipping your parcel over the border, then it costs the US $6 to subsidize the rest of their postal system while shipping your parcel to its destination. The rest is profit which they split.

Better options? None really...all private shippers are more expensive in my experience.

I hear you. It is almost to the point where trying to sell to the US is not worth the trouble. When I do throw a sales thread up on TFW, I try and make it clear that Canada Post is not cheap... even for small items.

I think Bruticus82 is correct - what we're really paying so much for is to subsidize getting mail to the 95% of Canadian soil that has 5% of the population - i.e. north. And they do deserve to get mail at reasonable rates I guess...

Just to comment on the add again. I tried to look for a TF:ROTF Bruticus Maximus around MTL and there are none to be found.

You can find a few on Ebay and Amazon.com but they are going for $100 and beyond, which is crazy.

Canada's bigger and has a lower population density, so, in general, things have to travel a greater distance to get to the recipient

On average, things traveling through the US need to travel less distance. It's about economies of scale as well. The US has a bigger population, so more people in total use the postal system.
