Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2
Speaking of variants, I just received this to photograph for the books. The Ceji French Yellow Constructicons. So we have the three major G1 variants of this set, the green, yellow non combining, and these.
There will be news by TFcon, for sure

Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2
Got a lot of questions in the Facebook group and Instagram, so I decided to do a quick comparison with the three Scavengers.
Left to right: Ceji, G2, Non-combining European G1. The yellow is more orange on the Ceji, and the purple is dark, almost close to the G1's purple.

Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2
Showing the US and Cdn variants is cool, if not necessary. I agree that not EVERY variation needs to be shown through photo, but I think it is necessary to be meticulous is listing ALL variants, respectfully. That way, the book is 100% complete and won't risk the chance of someone saying "oh, they didn't put in/mention this version". Annoying for a collector expecting a book that is supposedly complete, but missing information.
Maybe you can start a thread on variants you're planning on putting in the book, and use the members on this site and tfw2005 to add or adjust the list.
Also, will you be including via photo the variations in US packaging (i.e. mini pvc decoy figures with Throttlebots and Combiner parts; minispies included with minibots, 1986 movie poster box, mail-away types of packaging, etc.)?

Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2
There's no packaging in the book, we're focusing on the toys and photography. Variants will be minimal. Probably more regional exclusives than variants. Canadian slag, French constructions, European red tracks, that sort of thing.
There's mention of the cheapening in 86 and stuff like that, but we don't want to copy Fred's website into a book either.

I do not own Canadian Slag but have heard there were variants of this as well. For example a normal upper half and a"Canadian" bottom half.If this info is true would that be mentioned as well?

Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2
I imagine it would be difficult to compile a complete list of variants. There are also many "incidental" unintended variants (repackaging, minor re-tooling, unintended change in shading of plastic/paint colour, etc.)...Why did Canadian Slag have a red face? Was it intentional, or did someone just put the wrong colour plastic/dye in during production? There will inevitably be a number of people out there who will point out a "variant" that was missed. So, really, I wouldn't expect an ultimate complete list anyway. As awesome as it would be, it would require a lot of time, and I don't think there would be absolute certainty of completedness. I am really looking forward to these books! Definitely putting some $$ aside in anticipation.
Pre-orders soon?

The one Diaclone Slag was in the Canadian colours, with chrome horns. The red one is also pictured on the side of the box. I would hazard a guess at it being the proto that was solicited originally.

it's less than that, a Canadian Slag has no black plastic exposed, I've seen the frill black on a couple, but it's covered in chrome. pretty much everything unchromed minus the legs are red, so the tail connector, back, face, fists, etc. are all red. On the transitional variant, it's just black with the white parts under the chrome and the thighs. I've had three Canadians and two transitional variants over the years.

Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2
The link says 300 page US book layout. Any difference on the covers/sleeves from the Canadian distributed version or is it just one version. I hate it when they slap those Canadian price stickers on the cover/sleeves.
