Takara Alternity fail

Are people even buying these anymore? I know most collectors (myself included) were hyped about these when the first ones released because of the die cast, detail, and overall awesomeness. But then Takara just kept releasing the same 4 molds again and again and again as repaints... Now with the upcoming Super GTs we're at 20 toys released off of only 4 molds!!! I keep seeing BBTS putting them on sale, which tells me they're just sitting around (online at least)...
Why are they failing at making a few new molds? And I don't consider the Super GT a new mold, just the same GT-R mold with some slight design changes, and weird Lady figures added... Also.... Lady figures???!!! WTF is up with those?

The car body on the Super GT is 100% new. Pretty much only the transformation scheme has been borrowed from the old figure.

Pretty much the same mold, an updated Nissan GT-R...They basically added some different details (hood scoops, spoiler, body kit, etc.) to the existing GT-R mold... A new mold I would consider to be A WHOLE DIFFERENT CAR DAMMIT!!! :|

No, I believe they're the exact same size. The huge price hike comes from the addition of the girly figures.

Nope... same size. Head over to TFW and you'll see their brand new galleries for the Super GTs, along with comparison pics to the original GT-R.

They could at least work on 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT car molds and then repaint the shit out of those for the next couple years. At least they'd get some more interest. And also over $100 is crazy... If it's just because of the stupid lady drivers then release a version without them... I LOVE the Alternity line but goddamn am I tired of seeing the same 4 f*cking car molds....

Re: Takara Alternity fail

The Kiss Players line that used the Binaltech/Alternators mold came with female figures.

I think once they kissed them, the bots and humans fused became supercharged or something...

Yeah... that was weird and a price gouge.

Re: Takara Alternity fail

I think the liveries (all the racing sponsorship decals and paint apps) are expensive to license. I used to collect 1:18 Diecast and some racing versions were insanely priced.

But that's the issue: the appeal is very limited--maybe these are more desirable in Japan, but I think it's safe to say the relevance is pretty lost on us.

Even I'm not collecting them...but IF the price really plummets, I might not be able resist getting at least one.

Re: Takara Alternity fail

I have the first couple (The red GT-R, the grey Fairlady Z, and the purple Orochi) and they`re cool, but I never really take them out of the box...
I wouldn`t buy any more unless I liked the car.
