Yeah, this coincidence is kinda nuts. But going by the images, both teams are probably already a ways into their respective design processes, so I doubt it's a case of one-upsmanship unless they were butting heads right at the beginning.
It would be hilarious if the exact opposite were true. The teams were both thinking, "Well, the last thing we want is another case of overlap, and I'm willing to bet that the other company is going to do a more obvious choice, so let's do the crazy thing and go with Computron!" and the whole thing backfired because they had a severe case of brain-share and ended up overlapping anyway.
