Mirror, Mirror...

This was 100% inspired by Mr. Derrick J. Wyatt. At his TFcon panel, he showed some designs that were destined for the next season of Transformers: Animated. One series included a set of Mirror Universe (note how that is different than Shattered Glass) Autobots and Decepticons. Once I saw Megatron, I knew I had to break out the paints when I got home. The only problem was that I had to go off of my memory (no photos allowed in the panel).

So to the best of my ability, I broke out my Photoshop to see what I wanted to do:

Vehicle mode plan.

Bot mode plan. Derrick's design had mostly white (if I remember correctly), but I felt it needed a little more. Hence the half and half design.

Broke out the tools of the trade:

I stripped out the electronics and made one small modification. Where the speaker used to be, I cut a small piece of styrene and glued it in. It filled in the vent areas so there was not empty space there.

I didn't take many WIP pictures, which I regret:

Re: Mirror, Mirror...

Here is how things turned out:

Token Artistic Shot...

I made a few changes to the original design. I thought some of the blue highlights in the vehicle mode looked too busy and left it fairly clean.

The fusion cannon was a frigging nightmare. I tried to get the metallic blue look for it, but originally it did not show up well. I had to base coat it with light grey and then throw on 400 coats to get it to this. I'm still debating going a bit darker on it.

I still have some touch-ups to go, but am overall happy with how he came out.

Thanks man. The photos disguise some of the issues with the white. I struggled with that orange peel texture, but found something to help buff it out.

The Krylon did not go on as nice as the blue did. I don't know if I will use it again.

Re: Mirror, Mirror...

slickness galore good doctor!!!!
the color scheme looks like a hasbro intention, but waaaaaaay better executed!!!nice one!!!
i also like the happy medium you chose of outlining the windows with the blue instead of trying to turn them clear blue which may have resulted in clear purple windows
keep'em coming!!!
