Re: The Masterpiece Appreciation and Speculation Thread
Slowly getting around to playing with more of my Masterpiece figures.
MP-28 Hot Rodimus
Had him open for a while, but remained in car mode.
I like and dislike this one... but the likes (initially/currently) outweighs the dislikes.
As noted, I had him in car mode on a shelf for months. Just transformed him for the first time tonight. I had always wondered how a car so slim would be able to transform into a decent looking 'bot. The transformation was interesting and slightly impressive. Totally brings the cartoon to life. A lot of neat little features here, and I like the articulation of the legs. Very posable.
I am amazed at how they can re-engineer these transformers from a really basic toy as originally released into today's masterpieces. Ultra Magnus is a great one. From the original parts-forming Prime bot, I think it is fantastic how Magnus was designed as a masterpiece. Íf only he was more posable.
My negatives to Hot Rodimus:
Material -- a few parts feel cheap -- especially the plastic which connects the arms to the body. I feel like this will break and/or deteriorate quickly under inappropriate light; and,
Chest compartment (for the matrix) -- opening sideways does not seem right. Also, the location of the matrix is awkward -- seems more like a stomach than a heart. A heart-like location would be more appropriate.
I don't have the MP-9 version -- heard it's rather problematic...
Overall I like MP-28... Though I wish he had a trailer option as MP-9 did.
Just my ramblings... Up next for me is either Tracks or Inferno. I've heard great things about Inferno, so I'll likely check out tracks next... Not sure when. With my schedule it could be a few weeks or months.
Cheers all, and happy motoring...
