Anyone else effected by the recession?
few weeks ago, my boss came into the office and had a meeting. he told all of us that the company lost another customer and is not doing well, so he told us not to buy unnecessary items, because some of us may not have a job later on.
Obviously, my reaction to that was to save up as much as possible. I find that i'm not buying any transformers toys or any other collectibles at all. Even if i can afford it and really wanted it. i even pass on some really good deals too.
Has anyone else gone through similar situations? how do you deal with it?

Re: Anyone else effected by the recession?
Every time there's a recession here the crime rate triples and neighborhoods go down the tubes. We move outward or out-of-state. But Detroit's been like that for 35 years now.
I've found that I rationalize NOT buying anything over $25. I don't like the character, I don't need it, that's an ugly shade of purple, etc. I've also noticed that the number of requests for me to buy stuff for them at Hasbro.com went WAY down.

Unfortunately the GTA is a tough place to be right now, manufacturing has been taking a pounding and competition in all markets is killing profits for everyone. I would say I'm "noticing" it a bit from my customers but for the most part the effects are somewhat less and/or delayed out west. Just having to work a bit harder to keep numbers where they are.

Re: Anyone else effected by the recession?
I'm not feeling it directly... yet. But I've had quite a few people coming through who are getting laid off soon, which means bye-bye insurance plans. Right now that just means that people are rushing to get things done before the plans run out. Ask me again in 6 months and I might have a different answer.

I am just happy that I am in an industry that is more secure than the oil patch. I have a number of friends who have recently lost their jobs...

Sorry to hear that, I thought that the big banks were cutting down staff or not hiring as many people for retail banking.
I'm about to graduate, and I'm going into the financial services, the situation looks grim to me though.

Re: Anyone else effected by the recession?
The paranoia surrounding the recession is causing (or worsening) the recession itself. People are so scared to spend their money that they're killing the economy.

^ This.
Canada doesn't seem like it'll be in any major trouble soon.
