gernal question about blu-ray DVD business

I just visited a store that sells blu-ray DVD for cheap in Toronto. The store was tiny but they are selling blu-ray DVD movies for $18 each. everything from Iron-man to the enchanted.

The funny thing is. the disks look authentic. They even have laser etching and authentic screen printing. But the packaging is all wrong. He has tones of DVDs but none of them have any inserts that usually comes with the disks. And 2 disks sets are crammed in to a dvd box that only fits 1 disk. and all the movies are the same price. And some of the cover printing looks like it's been done with a home inkjet printer.

the whole operation feel like a bootleg shop with authentic Blu-ray disk and boxes. and it smells fishy.

I'm very confused. what do you think is going on in that shop?

Re: gernal question about blu-ray DVD business

If the disc looks good, I'm gonna guess that the discs are stolen and "wholesaled" from the origin country. Its alot easier to get a spindle of a 100 discs, and ship it for that fact, than a 100 packaged discs. At 18$ though? Blu Rays are between 16.99 and 29.99, not much of a savings to feel so dirty.

Bootleg!

The medium means nothing. It's the content that's matters. Anybody can convert an AVI file (such as a screen capture) into a VOB and put it onto a DVD. That doesn't make it a DVD. The same applies for HD-DVD and BD.

As for printed materials, these bootleg maker have the machines to fake it all. They are good at making it look real. But they are still bootleg.

Sounds like a standard vendor you'd find in any city's Chinatown.

Couldn't you just ask those mofos if their DVDs are bootlegs?

What's the worst they could do...ban you from their ghetto-like store?

Re: gernal question about blu-ray DVD business

Bootlegs. But quality obviously varies among bootlegs. Usually the stores have a player and a little tv so you can try the disks out.

They have several places with bootleg DVDS in the Pacific Mall and they all work that same way.

My friend told me there's a store in there that sells bootleg Gameboy Advance games too. You choose your game from a catalogue, a guy leaves, and comes back 5 minutes later with your game. "Don't ask where he goes."

Pacific mall is definitely the sketchiest place I've ever been. You can get some deals, but you can also get burned. My cousin almost bought an SD card with a capacity of 8 GIG, except GIG stood for gigabits instead of gigabytes (8 bits = 1 byte). :-p I'm sure that wasn't intentional
