U.S retailer Target will takeover Zellers stores by 2013
I just heard this news regarding Target stores and Zellers. If this in the wrong thread I apologize.
U.S. retailer Target Corp. announces it will buy leasehold interests in up to 220 Zellers stores in Canada from Hudson's Bay Company for $1.83 billion. It hopes to open Target stores in Canada by 2013.
Will this lead to better selection of Transformer toy and exclusives in Canada? Only time will tell.

I'd like to hope that it'll make availability better, somehow, I feel like things are going to be the same, toy-wise.
We've gotten a good chunk of the Target exclusives at Zellers already, and it won't change the fact that we'll need the trilingual packaging, "Quebec-safe" versions and whatnot.

This is good news!
Their US counterparts will still have different product and better selection, but I am excited that the takeover will happen.
Zellers has to be one of the most inconsistent stores in terms of distribution and overall store selection/organization.

Much as I want Canadian stores to remain Canadian, Zellers is such a terrible chain of stores I'm happy to see them disappear. I liked shopping at Target whenever I was in the US.
Zellers has nobody to blame but themselves. Instead of competing with Wal-Mart, they retained an old-fashioned dreary, dully lit, disorganized, poorly stocked & oddly smelling department store mentality. See ya!

The only real change will be that we'll have more stores to hit up for our plastic crack.
Honestly, though, the Zellers I pass by on the way to work isn't half bad, and I've gotten most of my in-store toys from there. The one closest to my house is cruddy 99% of the time (save for the ONE time I saw TFA Magnus there), and a couple of other ones nearby are downright disgusting.

Although it was hard to tell, Zellers was trying to mimick Target according to biz articles i've read after the Bay's buy out.
I'm glad we're now getting the real thing and not some copy cat. But just like Walmart, we're probably going to get less selection
