Re: Hasbro files lawsuit on ASUS

I hope hasbro crushes them..what a stupid move, did they think that hasbro would let them get away with that? I mean...look at what they do to the kids that put our toys together when they speak up.

Lawsuits take quite some time to file. It would be interesting to find out if Hasbro issued them a cease and desist first.

It's still an awesome tablet and I hope they can come to some sort of reasonable resolution.
Not really because the piece transforms the entire tablet into a netbook, so transformer would work. If that was the case then those TRANSFORMER boxes on light posts should be sued too.

They're not going after them for calling it the 'transformer' they are going after them for calling it the 'transformer prime'.

They can't go after them for the word transformer as they have no trademark on it. They have a trademark on the word 'transformers'.

Re: Hasbro files lawsuit on ASUS

Wow! I kind of assumed Asus licensed the name from Hasbro. Same as that LG Optimus phone. I suspect they'll be in the cross-hairs soon too. I would buy a Transformers branded laptop or phone, provided it had the features I wanted.

Re: Hasbro files lawsuit on ASUS

Generally trademarks are limited to specific wares in the trademark application. so, for example Transformers Prime Trademark:

http://www.cipo.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-ci...tIndexOnPage=1

Protects the following wares and services:

WARES:
(1) Toy action figures; toy vehicles; toy robots convertible into other visual toy forms; board games.

SERVICES:
(1) Entertainment services, namely an on-going animated television series.

Computers or Tablets don't fall within that definition, and therefore the use of Transformer Prime for the Asus Tablet shouldn't really be a violation of Canadian trademark. Not sure about US or international rules.

I'd like to see a copy of the lawsuit filing - see what they're claiming.

Re: Hasbro files lawsuit on ASUS

Isn't there a thing about trademarks that if they are infringed, you are legally obligated to stop it and if you don't you lose the rights to the trademark? I remember these types of threads popping up every once in awhile when Hasbro sues or gets back a name and someone always points what I said previously.

Re: Hasbro files lawsuit on ASUS

hasbro is suing because it conflicts with a current property that they have at the same time as this tablet i would assume not just the fact it is named the way it is.
