Yup,The Flea.Seemed more appropriate four years ago when he was killing those games.
Now for the current highlight:
The first anticipated match, Germany vs. Portugal was a very interesting one. For those that remember the previous "Third Place" match in World Cup 2010, it was pretty clear where the game will lead. The first goal from Muller, from a penalty kick paved way for Germany to clear not only two, but three goals in the first half, the third made by Muller again. But what made the shock of this match was the conflict between Portugal's Pepe and Muller, where a light scuffle led to Pepe clashing heads with Muller, almost literally. The ref, gave the call to suspend Pepe in Portugal's next game by giving him a red card.
To make matters worse for the Portuguese team, injuries from Coentrao, Alemida, and Patricio ensued on the second half. News from the coaches confirmed that the first two are not able to play for 3 weeks. Now what? Will Portugal push the effort to win one goal? Will Germany take it easy in their play? Will the ref play for Portugal and make a goal? Will Cristano Ronaldo sacrifice his hair in a dive to make one point?
The answers ranged from sort of to almost.
But in a similar fashion to the match between Netherlands vs. Spain a few days ago, Muller went in for a hat trick and made Germany win with a 4-0. The streets of Toronto will be quiet today. The fans will complain about the ref, while Pepe and Ronaldo will sulk and whine for the meantime.
Meanwhile, Iran vs. Nigeria became the first game to have a tie of 0-0.
And lastly, US vs. Ghana, where Dempsey made the 5th fastest goal in about 29 seconds from the whistle. By then it was anyone guess to whether Ghana will make their shot at the goal. They did so by the second half, nearly 10 minutes away from the game's end. Despite getting a nose bleed, Dempsey continues to play and even assist Brooks in making the second goal for the US. A wonderful play for the underdog team. Way to go, Americans! Game ends 2-1.
