Re: Will you over pay to make sure you get something?
I have done it occasionally on eBay for G1 figures but never feel good about it. I personally wouldn't do it for something that could be readily found in the wild. I'm sure with a network like cybertraon.ca, a fellow boardie can find it for you on sale (to help offset the cost of shipping). It may cost you a few extra bucks but no where near as much as ebay or resellers would charge you.

Yeah, I'll probably wait to see if they show up locally first.
There's also a good chance that when they become available locally they may show up on TRU.ca and/or Walmart.ca. Both of which will give me free shipping for the amount that I'll be spending on them should I choose to go that route.

Re: Will you over pay to make sure you get something?
My rule of thumb is if I really-really want something, 1.5 times retail is my absolute max over payment. My reasoning is it saves me time and gas to hunt down a figure, and the rest is the get-it-now tax.
As soon as it approaches 2 times retail, I find it's better to just wait. There will be plenty of opportunities to over pay. No need to jump on the first one that pops up.

1.5 X retail eh ? That's pretty reasonable. I just might start using this rule.

Re: Will you over pay to make sure you get something?
I try to predict which figures won't stock with certainty at Retail and will pay a it extra to avoid some hassle...for example Deluxe Arcee and Brainstorm which I bought at a hobby store for a minor premium. I decided to pre-order CW Bruticus because I suspect he won't show at retail, or in the very least will be well after X-Mas, maybe even Feb...but I hope to be wrong...
The premium does reduce my budget a bit, but certain releases get higher priority for me...
BTW kudos to sticking to your budget...and jelly you get the extra time with your kids...so important and fun!

Re: Will you over pay to make sure you get something?
I'll amost never overpay for a current release, with one exception: if there's a good chance I won't find it in my area either because of poor distribution or because it gets passed over in Canada. I preordered CW Ultra Magnus from Automaton for this reason, and even though the US currency and shipping upcharge did sting, I was vindicated by the fact I never saw one unit at retail.

Re: Will you over pay to make sure you get something?
i'd wait it out or just buy the japanese version. if you're going to spend more might as well get the one with better paint apps. it happened to me with arcee. waited a long time and never seen her . the toy shows were selling her for as much as the japanese release so i just bought the japanese one.

This is an excellent strategy. I really admire your discipline.
