They should have done that years ago. Obviously they needed a large draw in order to fill both buildings with attendees, so they needed a section of "Fandom" that wasn't covered. Sports was that solution.

What if there are Geeks/Nerds that like Sports too? I fall into this category.

Here's a thought - If you don't like Sports, don't go to that section.

Problem solved.

I'm a sports loving nerd. I'm going to beat the living shit out of myself if a nerd apocalypse breaks out.

And how do the nerds keep the jocks out of theirs?

Re: FanExpo is now going to include a "Sports" section. Mistake?

As long as this doesn't take away from their traditional audience, as in cancelling a Sci Fi guest to bring in a sports one, I can't see it as a bad thing.

These large Comic Con style events have gone across every genre at this point and are already attracting extremely diverse crowds in massive numbers. No reason not to add some sports flavor - not only do athletes appear in video games but they have become quite relevent in the toy industry as well.

Think of people like Shaquille O'Neal or Michael Jordan that have a branched into movies and video games beyond the basketball genre. I imagine guys like that would be a huge attraction.

That said if some of these pro athletes get a taste for charging for autogrpahes that isn't going to help their popularity with the common sports fan.

Being a Sports fan doesn't mean you are a Jock.

I sense more problems with this for this Rogers owned company.

More 3+ hour lines for those who paid and had tickets, went out to eat and come back unable to get in because the wonderful Fanexpo decided to overcrowd the place causing a fire code fault and yet continues to sell tickets.

NO FREAKIN SPACE. I mean honestly...just honestly. You can't move in there as is, now this. Talk about greedy Rogers.

With lightsabres, blasters, and magic wands?

I'm all for the expansion into the North Building, it's something I really think they should've done in the first place to help with the crowd issue. But I agree with the people saying it's a stupid move and it feels so out of place in a show around geek culture

On the plus side…I do hope this is provides an excuse for them to finally invite Jason David Frank to one of these…so yeah I'm of two minds about this LOL. Hopefully this won't make ticket prices too insane this year…they're already pricey enough as it is.

Re: FanExpo is now going to include a "Sports" section. Mistake?

People thinking jocks are going to come to fan expo to see sports stars and get their autograph are not really thinking this through. The "jock" sterotype person would never go to a fan expo type of event. The types you will see are older nerds to see Bobby Orr, Parents with their kids and the super fans. Super fans are just like you and me but instead of liking toys they obsess about their team. Also we are living in the age of nerds, most jocks I knew all had some inner nerd or geek in them anyways. The guys that would call people Nerd to make fun of them don't really exist in the adult world.
