I've been using SMJ for awhile now and I've been happy with their service so far; others have tried Yokatta and have nothing but praises from them as well.

Now if only that yen would start dropping a bit....

thanks for the reply, i was wondering if you get danged for customs fees often from the packages you get from SMJ? do they declare it as gift etc?

They declare it as whatever you want them to declare it as.

Though I find with SMJ, it gets a little iffy: the sender is written as "ShoppingMallJapan" on the package, so the customs office is sometime wary when it's marked as "gift".

Re: proxy service for yahoo japan auctions

Here's the one that I use for my web exclusive stuff:

http://yokattaweb.jp/

There's also this person too, who goes by OkinawamToySeller on HenshinJusticeUnlimited's boards:

http://hobbyjapan.ocnk.net/

I can tell you right now that they are pretty reliable, though Iv'e had closer contact with Yokatta.

So far, I haven't gotten hit with taxes ordering from Yokatta yet *Knocks on wood*. They usually under declare the value, and mark the parcel as gift or personal use.

Re: proxy service for yahoo japan auctions

Tokyo-Hunter (http://www.tokyo-hunter.com/) is apparently reliable as well, but I haven't used their services before.

Celga (http://www.celga.com) too, but I don't think they do any item/package consolidation/combining for you before shipping your stuff to you. Never used them either, though.

Personally, I'm just lucky I have a university buddy who ended up marrying a Japanese girl and is living in Tokyo right now.
