Re: Toys Toys Toys Files for Bankruptcy
AW
When I used to drive down for TFCon weekend, T3 was an excuse to blow one afternoon taking the subway downtown and hit up Eaton Centre
I remember that's where I got my CW Shockwave - and the following year, I bought another and put it in the TFCon charity auction, good times
They were churning out old $20 TR deluxes well into POTP, and even beyond I think (tons of Highbrow, Mindwipe, Chromedome, etc)
Was also good for older MH & DCSHG figs as well; it's where we picked up a Hawkgirl for my daughter, never seen that one anywhere else
Yeah they overpriced and that had me not making purchases 99% of the time, but I loved going through the aisles and seeing a decent-to-huge TF selection "not in a WM/TRU"
I'll miss that if nothing else

Sad regardless of their prices, one less toy store to frequent

Re: Toys Toys Toys Files for Bankruptcy
Their business model was putting big markups on liquidated unsold stock. You'll now be able to find those same toys for less at Winners.
Having more toy stores out there is nice, but this is one I won't miss.

Re: Toys Toys Toys Files for Bankruptcy
Hah, I’m like the 3rd guy in this thread to buy CW Shockwave from them. I haven’t lived in TO for years, but getting that figure last time I visited was pretty sweet. Not cheap, either!

Re: Toys Toys Toys Files for Bankruptcy
Was just about to post the same article. I remember being able to pick up a couple G1 reissues like Smokescreen and Red Alert for about $25 each at Square One back in the day.
Been a little more than a year since I visited the Erin Mills TC location and saw that old Generations Galvatron for $30. Never went back

Big if true!
Can't wait for "actual anything" to populate the local Winners again

big mark up on any stock is the goal of all retail. My mum used to own a dress shop, $300 discontinued wedding dress from the distributor was flipped for $1k and that was considered a deal for a wedding dress. Peak behind the retail curtain and your face will melt with the mark up on products.

On the bright side, I do recall getting a pretty good deal on a SW Black Series Tie Fighter from them for, I think $50?

Actually, Costco's whole business model is not marking up non-inhouse brands (ie everything that isn't Kirkland) by more than 15%.
Not trying to debate or anything, I just thought you might find that info interesting.

im aware but costco charges for memberships where as everywhere else doesn't. Lots of costco goods are sold at break even prices in order to induce new memberships.
