I'm pretty sure they have the ability to change size. Megatron and Soundwave become really small when they transform.

Re: G1 confusion

After episodes 1 to 3 of the G1 series, the Autobots found out that Cybertronian robot mode flight causes cancer, sterility, and ozone depletion as well as releasing a whole metric crap-tonne of greenhouse gasses.

So the Autobots stopped flying. Decepticons, on the other hand, just didn't care and continued.

Also, gotta love the whole ret-con of a number of things.

Seems now that the laser cores/sparks of the Dinobots were contained on the Ark and needed bodies. Their stupidity was due to sub-standard components for processing thought and memory being made from scratch on Earth.

A similar case can be made for the Constructicons, their laser cores/sparks were intact but imported from Cybertron via space-bridge, and then their bodies reconstructed on Earth in a cave. Or something. I forget what the current G1 retcon is for them.

No matter, a G1 Cybertronian needs a laser core/spark granted from the Plasma Energy Chamber and Vector Sigma. Without it, the unit is just an automaton. The Stunticons were built on Earth and could even form Menasor, but lacked individual direction and needed to be remote controlled until granted life on Cybertron.

No clue what the whole laser core/spark thing implies when referring to Autobot-X/Spike and in S3 with the whole Synthoid situation.

I mean, did Autobot-X have a laser core/spark after the mind transfer? What the hell happened with the laser cores/sparks of the Autobots who were transfered to Synthoids and back?

But then, it IS just a Saturday morning cartoon designed to sell toys in the 1980s.

Re: G1 confusion

Somewhat off topic:

Ratchet
: Optimus Prime, sir, we've explored what you've asked us and it seems as though there's a little hiccup. Actually, um...
Optimus Prime: A hiccup?
Wheeljack: Yes, see, for 5 team mambers... sir, the technology doesn't actually exist. So it...
Optimus Prime: Wait, wait, the technology?
[puts an arm around him]
Optimus Prime: Ratchet, Ratchet...
[points at the giant Devastator image]
Optimus Prime: Here is the technology. I've asked you to simply make it smaller.
Wheeljack: All right, and that's what we're trying to do, but... honestly, it's impossible.
Optimus Prime: [shouting] Megatron was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!
Ratchet: Well, I'm sorry. I'm not Megatron.
