What do you do with your old versions of characters?

Siege and Earthrise released/will release great updates on characters that were already released some time ago. I imagine many people are now replacing their old Grapple, Seekers, Primes, etc.... What do you do with the now inferior copy of a character you've just purchased?

Do you sell it? If so do you expect much for it?

Do you display one in alt mode along with bot mode?

Do you make a new character out of it through some custom paint or use parts to kitbash something?

Maybe you give them away to a kid that will appreciate them as toys instead of pretty shelf warmers?

Simply curious

Bonus question - Was/is there any new figure that you've decided wasn't worth "upgrading" to?

Bring them to value village lol. Just keep the old version and pass on the new version.

Do you sell it? Yes

If so do you expect much for it? As much as I can get

Do you display one in alt mode along with bot mode? No

Do you make a new character out of it through some custom paint or use parts to kitbash something? Rarely

Maybe you give them away to a kid that will appreciate them as toys instead of pretty shelf warmers? No my kid has enough already

Simply curious

Bonus question - Was/is there any new figure that you've decided wasn't worth "upgrading" to? Siege Starscream was not worth me upgrading to

Generally they get tossed on Kijiji or used for trades, unless they’re different enough to warrant having multiple ‘versions’ of the same character.

You can definitely get something for the older figures on Kijiji/Facebook, but don't expect them to sell overnight unless you're giving them away.

If I were to start collecting today, I'd still choose the earlier releases (Classics/CHUG) of the G1 characters over the Siege (except a few characters, like Jetfire) as I didn't like the Siege war damage deco. That doesn't even account for the fact that I would not be able to afford a collection centred on Siege characters.

90% of my collection were cast-offs from board members/Kijiji. The rest were bought brand new at huge discount prices (Amazon/Walmart/scalper clearances).

Don't some stores like Ages Three and Up offer trade-in options (you trade in your older figures for some store credit)? I figure you can get some value back and also credit to use towards future purchases, depending on what it was you traded in.

Hmmm, I never knew that about A3U. That's a pretty cool idea though (similar to trading in video games).
