Re: Fan Expo Toronto 2013

They've opened up both the north and south buildings, which is great but how much crazier is it gonna get now that they're doing sports stuff too?

Combined with all the big name A+++ celebrities that they've been announcing, this all has the potential to be totally overwhelming both for con goers and the staff. More so then it normally is I mean.

Not to mention there's the whole Wizard World Toronto fiasco that happened, which could also explain why ticket prices are so insane this year.

I dunno, if press passes and exhibitor passes weren't an option for me, I more then likely would've skipped this year all together. Definitely skipping if I can't get access to either.

Re: Fan Expo Toronto 2013

Well, I WAS thinking of going, but after checking the ticket prices, screw that! Like the previous poster stated, they are INSANE!! I was thinking of going down Saturday, maybe make a last ditch effort to find a SDCC Metroplex for a semi-decent price. But $50 just for walking in the damn door, not to mention the $20 in gas and another $10-20 for parking, F' that crap!

Re: Fan Expo Toronto 2013

We're not going either... As a start-up hobby business to have fun and help other Collectors, it wasn't worth it to us... they wanted $1000 PER 8' TABLE/BOOTH to deal at this show for the weekend. Not something we could justify at this time.

The third best Doctor IMO after Tom Baker and Peter Davison.

I would love to meet Colin Baker and have him sign my Revelation of the Daleks figure box set and DVD but, FanExpo is BS and it is even worse now to go with all the fake geeks that are most likely responsible for driving up admission price and the lines and over crowded environment and really, I never found any real good deals at this show the two times I've been years back.

Re: Fan Expo Toronto 2013

I was set to go and then they started posting the prices of the autographs.

Everything this year has been jacked through the roof.

Last year Norman Reidus was $35 this year he's $45. The year I saw Carrie Fisher (5 years ago?) she was $35 and this year she's $70. Ian McDairmid is $85. Ron Pearlman is $50.

It's honestly a wallet rape-fest this year and since I'm not dropping that much money on any Celeb's 2-second scribble of ink I see no sense in attending.

Re: Fan Expo Toronto 2013

i am going to go cus ive gone with friends almost every year - to be honest - if u are going or have made up ur mind that ur going - u obviously could afford it and still buy more stuff inside - not that tfcon just happened right?! haha im still so broke! but yeah no i am going cus i like going. there are always lots of cool cosplayers and artist alley is really sweet. as an artist myself i find that there are a lot of creative talented people coming so i wanna see them for sure. i used to collect comics right up to when michael turner died (if u dont know who he is - oh man check out this stuff now!)

now don't get me wrong - i didnt buy the vip ticket (just premium) cus 1) it gets me in earlier or under a seperate line and 2)gets me in on all the other small cons hobbystar is hosting for a year

vip = linebypass to pay for 50$+ celeb autographs... pass
Ive been to usa cons and i have met enough celebs at the hotel bar than inside the con itself... i do have a friend that bought one cus hes a rich sob and im gonna borrow it if i do need to line up for something ( Communal PASS! FTW)

this is the only time i think VIP tickets works best - in as a team effort - derp!

now in regards to price hike - it was bound to happen but if its because they rented both north and south building - if thats the case the price hike is not that bad at all if EVERYONE can get it and not have to close the con cus of overcrowding?

note - also if not a lot of ppl show up - the con will be easier to walk in and lineups are shorter - etc - u get my point?

haters gonna hate!

I was 95% really wanting to go a few months ago, now I'm down to 50%.

Yes, I CAN afford to go, and I CAN afford to pay these prices....but I'm reaching that breaking point; even though I have no big expenses and no other significant vices other than TFs. My "big wallet" started to pinch at $45+ an auto.

I miss the days when I can buy a $25 ticket for 1 day and spend $20-$30 per autograph, with a free photo op right after they sign their 8x10.

Re: Fan Expo Toronto 2013

I remember going to my First Fan Expo in 1999 and I went every year up to 2007, now the prices are just too outrageous for autographs and for admission. I'll save my money for Metroplex, Soundwave or hopefully YOTS Omega Supreme.
