Target coming To Canada - A blessing to TF collectors?
Toronto Star - Cheap-chic retailer Target coming to Canada
My initial thought when I read this was "Hey! We wouldn't have to worry about whether Target exclusives in the US would show up here!", and I was pleased. But, the more I thought about it, the more I was concerned since it would take them a while to set up shop here, and some of us in the smaller populated areas may not get one immediately like you all in the larger cities, thereby making it more difficult to pick up any store exclusives that would stay with the chain.
Then again, it's going to take at least three years to get started, and by then maybe I won't be collecting anymore, so it wouldn't matter. That, and in the long run, I'm sure they'll be as widespread as the Wal-Marts and Zellers and such.
(And, more importantly, does anyone really call it "Tar-Jay"? )
Anyways, I was just curious as to what you all thought...

I always call it tar-jay.
Probably more of a blessing to firearms enthusiasts...

Re: Target coming To Canada - A blessing to TF collectors?
I guess the question would be whether or not Target Canada would pick up the same exclusives as target US. I mean, up here Zellers usually picks up the Target exclusives, but I don't think that's been the case 100% of the time. Certainly zellers has passed on some exclusives. Also just because something is a target exclusive in the states doesn't mean it couldn't end up being a zellers exclusive here.
My sense is that they determine exclusivity agreements on a country by country basis (this would make a great question for hasbro for the next round of bi-monthly questions.).
I suppose in an effort to differentiate themselves target Canada might be more likely to order exclusives, when, and if, they eventually show up in Canada.

Re: Target coming To Canada - A blessing to TF collectors?
Well seeing as Walmart exclusives in the US don't always make it up to Walmart Canada I wouldn't be more than hopefully optimistic.
The packaging also has to be bilingual (french & english) so that means they have to make alternative packaging. Of course if they just make the packaging trilingual (french, spanish & english) everyone would be happy.

Apparently there was a Target here in GP. It got shut down though, because of Wal*Mart. I have no idea if this is true or not.:/

Re: Target coming To Canada - A blessing to TF collectors?
Doubt it, esspecially in GP. But Feilds and Saan store where probably never the same.
I love going to Target, but I also love going to TRU and Wal_mart in the states, Why? Because I am in the states shopping for somthing diffferent. If Target comes to Canada yes there is a good chance that we could get more stuff, but there is also a good chance that we will still get shafted because we are in canada.

Re: Target coming To Canada - A blessing to TF collectors?
I assume the exclusives will be the same deal as WalMart: Not in Canada, or the toy without the DVD/comic.
But regardless of exclusives, it's still a source for Transformers cheaper than TRU, so that in itself is a good thing.
Plus:
-1 more toy carrier to have sales.
-Tiny differences in stock could be good
-Besides Transformers, Target has amazing prices on dvd's and other stuff
I am glad!
p.s. and no, people don't really call it Tar-jay, that's just something David Kaye made up at Botcon 2007.

This is excellent news! The Target cherry icees are coming to Canada! No more cross border trips to get one. :P
...oh, and I also won't have to go down across the line to find the Transformers exclusives at the Bellingham Target. Ha ha.

I think Quebec is going to get the short end of the stick on this again.

I don't think we're having any shortage of department store chains, but hey, competition can't hurt I guess. And their mascot is domo-kun, that's pretty cool I guess.
