That's $300 before shipping and potential duty...

Re: BC Community Thread For Non-Sightings Chat

He’s 26 with $32,000 in savings. Here’s how he did it

Frak. I am 36 with 3 times more savings and I still can't afford to buy a place in greater Vancouver. No car and a barely furnished apartment full of toys.

Re: BC Community Thread For Non-Sightings Chat

I'm 30 and I have a little something I like to call 'negative savings'. No hope of owning a home unless I make it rich. I think I have to move out of Vancouver eventually.

Re: BC Community Thread For Non-Sightings Chat

I am pretty sure I had more than $32k savings when I was 26. Just because I was saving whatever I could save back then.

Now, I still try but clearly saving for the sole purpose of being able to own a home (I'd be happy with a 1 bed room + den or 2 Jr bed room) is almost delusional in this city.

well at least I am not in a relationship so I don't have to think about spending my savings on a wedding.

Don't be afraid to branch out. Respectfully, in the sun it's great, the other 80% of the time I find Vancouver depressing and there is no room.

What's keeping you there? Is your family there? It can't be the hockey team.

It's those 20% of amazing days it would be hard to leave. Not to mention proximity to tons of outdoor recreation and car-free access to everything. As much as I'd love to move somewhere more affordable, it would be really hard to give up a lot of things I've become accustomed to. And I have a fairly secure job that isn't going to transfer me anywhere I'd actually want to live.

I guess even East Van would be an improvement over living in downtown, I'd be happier with my surroundings and actually feel like I live in a real neighborhood.

Re: BC Community Thread For Non-Sightings Chat

I have a good job here. I love living by the sea. I don't care about hockey. I can't live in extreme cold.

I am renting in East Van by Mountainview Cemetery. It's pretty peaceful there. Sure there are the occasional hobo and crazy ones that show up in the area, but over all it's not overly disturbing. I just don't living in a commercial area.

I love on the Sunshine Coast for this reason. Community and outdoor awesomeness! Where else could I afford to live a 3 minute walk to the beach? Granted, I own a little bit of my place and the bank owns the rest, but hey, at least I have that. And Vancouver is right over there if I really want to brave all of you crazy people to go shopping.

Re: BC Community Thread For Non-Sightings Chat

I wouldn't mind living on the Sunsine Coast when I retire. But I work in South Van and unless I change job I wouldn't want to move too far away from my work.
