Re: Pacific Rim
Funny how my taste in movies has changed over the years. Back in University I loved independent and arthouse films.
Nowadays big frackin' robots going toe to toe with gigantic gojiras makes me all warm and tingly.
Hope to see this in theatres when it comes out! Seeing that the great Idris Elba (miscast in 'Prometheus' but brilliant in 'The Wire') is in it makes me think this'll be awesome if you have low expectations.

Re: Pacific Rim
So this is Hollywood's take on Gojira VS MechaGojira VS Mogurea?

Re: Pacific Rim
The trailer just killed 50% of the excitement I had for this movie. I was hoping for something not so... generic from Del Torro. And by generic, I mean it looks like it could have been directed by any director. Del Torro has such a dynamic style to him... even the monsters look boring. Eh. Still, I'll watch this specifically because of Del Torro. I love his films usually.

Re: Pacific Rim
My first thought is EVA, but then most people who saw the series would jump to that.
The trailers pretty much show what I would expect from a giant monster/giant robot movie. Anybody could direct a movie with giant robots and giant monsters. Just look at the first season of Power Rangers. Uwe Bol could do it, Michael Bay could do it. I could do it and it wouldn't look pretty, but people could say "well, that was a giant robot fighting a giant monster".
Its what fills in the details between those clips that I really really want to see, and where I'm hoping to get the Del Toro influence.
Want to see it in theaters in 3D.
