Why did he change the deal all of a sudden? Only he can tell you that. Have you asked the seller for an explanation?

In any case the advice you're getting is wise: if it doesn't smell right, you don't have to go through with it.

Bait & Switch is probably the oldest scam around.

Yeah, it does feel odd. But who knows, maybe everything he claims is true. Life is stranger than fiction, so at least suspicion wise, without proof to the contrary, give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

Regardless, as others have said, if it doesn't feel right, move on. He changed the terms of the deal, so you have every right to back out.

To my recollection, Wheelie was a peg warmer when it first came out, so you should have other opportunities. A little patience will go a long way, especially in this hobby.

I wouldn't be surprised if you found the figure later for less than retail.

Yeah maybe not a scam, but I'd be uncomfortable at that point and probably say something like "thanks but if we can't make the trade work I'll have to pass" and walk away.

Herculesebeetle:

It is fairly smart of you to ask for opinions, to have more information and opinions on the situation.

It seems as if you had an agreement in place, albeit altered from the original offering, and then the seller decided against it.

I would probably back away from any future dealings with someone who agreed to something, and then tried to change the terms. I'd be okay if they just backed out, but trying to change things is a proverbial "red flag", in my opinion.

I hope you are comfortable with the decision you make. Best of luck to you.
